What Polished Concrete Is

Polished concrete is a mechanical process — not a coating. The existing slab is ground with progressively finer diamond tooling until the desired level of refinement is reached.

A chemical densifier is applied during the process to harden the surface, reduce dusting, and improve abrasion resistance.

The final finish depends on the condition of the existing slab and the sheen level selected. No two floors look identical.

The Installation Process

Site Assessment

We evaluate the existing slab — moisture levels, hardness, existing coatings, cracks, joints, and surface profile. This determines which tooling sequence and densifier system are appropriate.

Surface Preparation

Existing coatings, adhesives, or contamination are removed. Cracks and spalls are repaired. The floor is ground to open the surface and establish the correct profile for the selected finish level.

Progressive Diamond Grinding

The slab is refined using progressively finer diamond tooling — typically moving through multiple grit stages. Each pass removes scratches from the previous stage and increases surface clarity.

Densifier Application

A chemical densifier is applied and worked into the surface. The densifier reacts with the concrete to harden the surface, reduce dusting, and improve abrasion resistance.

Final Polish & Guard

Final polishing passes bring the floor to the specified sheen level. A penetrating guard is applied to improve stain resistance and ease of cleaning. The floor is ready for traffic.

Built For Working Floors

Properly prepared and maintained polished concrete can perform well under regular forklift traffic. Slab condition, wheel type, turning patterns, and joint condition all affect performance.

Polishing does not increase the slab's structural load capacity. If your facility runs heavy equipment, we'll evaluate the slab during the site assessment and give you an honest recommendation.

Keep Routine Maintenance In-House

Ameripolish offers maintenance products and guidance that allow a facility's own cleaning crew to handle routine upkeep with suitable equipment, pads, and cleaners — helping control long-term costs. Routine maintenance typically includes dust mopping, damp mopping with a pH-neutral cleaner, and periodic burnishing. Repairs, deep scratches, or more extensive restoration may require professional attention.

Dust mop or auto-scrub regularly with a pH-neutral cleaner

Use non-marking pads and soft-bristle brushes

Avoid acidic or alkaline cleaners — they degrade the surface over time

Burnish periodically to restore sheen

Address spills promptly — polished concrete resists but is not impervious to staining

Inspect joints and cracks annually; repair before they propagate
